| RAKU Pottery
RAKU (or RAKUYAKI) originally referred to a type of earthenware used in the Japanese tea ceremony.
Our Fair Trade RAKU pottery is hand made in South Africa and undergoes many stages through modelling, pressing, etching, Bisque firing, painting, firing in a Kiln, cooling and lastly smouldering in sawdust to produce exceptional quality Raku pieces.
Each item passes through the hands of at least eight different skilled craftsmen, many of whom etch or paint their initials on the bottom of each piece - making it truly "one of a kind".
